J. B. Mouton established the company in 1915 when he began
using his father’s team of mules to help build houses
in the tiny community of Lafayette. After several years, he
expanded into commercial construction, and was joined by his
sons, William and Francis Mouton. In 1948, a grandson, Manning
“Bozo” Billeaud, began working in the field as
a superintendent. Over the course of the next fifty-plus years
he took over the business and became President and owner of
J. B. Mouton Inc.
One
of Manning’s 17 children, Popie, began working as a
laborer during summers during his high school and college
years. He has now worked his way up through the organization
and currently serves as President and owner of J. B. Mouton,
Inc. Two other great-grandsons, Kim Martin Nehrbass, Vice-President,
and Andre’ Billeaud, Project Manager, also work with
the firm.
